Stories of Our Lives: Community Quilt
Throughout May, we will be hosting a series of craft workshops to create patches for our community quilt. These events for the over 50s, will form part of our forthcoming celebration of Women’s History and are supported by Age Cymru’s Gwanwyn Festival.
Inspired by the eclectic nature of patchwork and traditional Welsh quilts, each diverse workshop will reflect the rich patchwork of experiences our community has to offer. Unless otherwise stated, they will take place on Wednesday mornings (10am-1pm) and are FREE. Spaces are limited however, and booking is essential by calling 01834 860 500 or emailing [email protected]
Week one: Cyanotypes (‘sun-printing’) workshop with Linda Norris using keepsakes or small objects from the museum collection. (Please note, this will begin at 10.30 a.m. and there is the option of continuing the workshop until 4pm at a cost of £12 per person for those who wish to create cyanotype prints on fabric to take away.)
Week two: Fabric painting/printing workshop reflecting ‘Memories of my Grandmother’ through colour, shape and line.
Week three: Creative Stitching with Carolyn Young, drawing inspiration from Welsh samplers with a modern twist.
Week four: Natural Dyeing with artist Sian Lester using local plants and traditional techniques.
Week five: The Big Stitch! A social opportunity to help stitch the quilt together under the guidance of local experts.
Come along to all, some or one of the workshops; make friends and leave a legacy while learning new skills.
